Challenges of data mining for communication is remembering the fundamental question “why are we storing this data?” As we enter an era where storing data is easier, data grows. As a result, managing data is a bigger risk, expense and challenge. When considering communication, good data governance is essential to managing data. Without good metadata and information about data usage, quality or history, use and value of that data decays over time. Proper documentation, governance and management of information should be refreshed on a regular schedule, with unnecessary data being purged. Data of value should be promoted with better products developed, and then put into action to solve problems, gain insight or to monitor top priorities.
