In this article, we will share some tips on how to demonstrate teamwork in a cybersecurity interview.
One of the most common ways to answer behavioral questions in an interview is to use the STAR method, which stands for Situation, Task, Action, and Result. This method helps you structure your response and provide specific examples of how you handled a situation that involved teamwork. For example, you can describe a situation where you worked with a cross-functional team to solve a security incident, the task you were assigned or took on, the actions you took to collaborate and communicate with others, and the result you achieved or learned from the experience.

I've found that the STAR method really helps to keep you on track with these sorts of interview questions. When im interviewing someone as well as the actual answer im looking at their time management and abilty to keep their answer relevant. Many interviews, you'll be told how long you have and how many questions there will be so its important to ensure you give an appropriate length answer for each question. The STAR method allows you to concisely explain the backstory and how you and your team collaboratively resolved the issue. I find that examples of resolving a major cyber incident allow you to show great teamwork in a highly pressured situation. The STAR method can help you "tell the story" about your experiences as a team player (as well as other skills!). It's a good framework to consider for interview questions. Here's STAR broken down: -S (Situation) - Set the stage. What happened? What were the circumstances? -T (Task) - What role did you play in the circumstances? -A (Action) - Which action(s) needed to be taken? What were the steps involved? -R (Result) - What was the outcome? Any lessons learned that you can reflect on?

For example, you can mention how you have used tools, frameworks, or methodologies that facilitate teamwork, such as agile, scrum, or Kanban. Asking questions is not only a way to show your interest and curiosity in the role and the company, but also a way to demonstrate teamwork in a cybersecurity interview. By asking questions, you can learn more about the team culture, dynamics, and expectations, as well as the challenges and opportunities they face. You can also use questions to show how you would approach a hypothetical scenario or a case study that involves teamwork. For example, you can ask how you would communicate with different audiences, such as technical experts, managers, or clients, or how you would coordinate with other teams, such as development, operations, or compliance.

I have always found asking "relevant" questions to be the most enriching opportunity/part of the interview. And, it works both ways :).
