Functional training is a form of exercise that aims to improve your performance and health in everyday activities. It involves using multiple muscle groups, movements, and equipment to challenge your body and mind. But functional training is not only about physical fitness, it also requires self-awareness. Self-awareness is the ability to recognize and understand your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, and how they affect yourself and others. Developing self-awareness can help you improve your emotional intelligence and resilience, which are essential skills for functional training and life. In this article, we will explore how you can develop self-awareness in functional training and why it matters.
Self-awareness is the foundation of emotional intelligence, which is the ability to perceive, manage, and express your emotions, and to understand and relate to others. Self-awareness helps you to identify your strengths and weaknesses, your values and goals, your motivations and triggers, and your impact on others. Self-awareness also enables you to monitor your progress, adjust your strategies, and learn from your feedback. By being self-aware, you can make better decisions, communicate more effectively, and cope with stress and challenges.

To achieve a dream or goal, we need to work with consistency, improvement and determination. Dreaming and doing are different, we cannot expect quick results in this world. Self awareness helps us to understand the reality of our situation and the steps we need to take. We should train our mind to accept reality and not burden it with unrealistic expectations and do not get demotivated even if results are not as expected. Good things takes time.

Too many people are scared to stand out due to judgement by society What makes us unique is what makes us interesting, be authentic and embrace what you enjoy doing, that's how you live to your highest potential
One way to assess your self-awareness is to use a tool called the Johari window. The Johari window is a model that divides your personality into four quadrants: open, hidden, blind, and unknown. The open quadrant represents what you and others know about yourself, such as your skills, preferences, and feelings. The hidden quadrant represents what you know about yourself but others don't, such as your secrets, fears, and insecurities. The blind quadrant represents what others know about you but you don't, such as your habits, biases, and blind spots. The unknown quadrant represents what neither you nor others know about yourself, such as your potential, talents, and subconscious. The goal of the Johari window is to expand your open quadrant by sharing more of your hidden quadrant, receiving more feedback from your blind quadrant, and exploring more of your unknown quadrant.

By journalling and writing down exactly - Who I am - What is my purpose - What can I do to be better - What can I do today to help others Ask yourself the tough questions and answer them in as much detail as possible
Increasing self-awareness is possible with functional training, and here are some tips to help you do so. Keeping a journal can be beneficial for reflecting on experiences, emotions, and actions, as well as recording goals, plans, results, and learnings. Requesting feedback from your trainer, peers, or friends can provide valuable information for improving performance and behavior. Additionally, practicing mindfulness during functional training can help become more aware of body, breath, sensations, thoughts, and emotions. Seeking new experiences in and outside of functional training can help discover interests, abilities, and values while challenging yourself to step out of your comfort zone.

Self awareness can be increased by observing self patterns of thoughts, emotions and behavior and always be curious about your mind. It is nothing but mindfulness - Mindfulness is the practice of gently focusing your awareness on the present moment over and over again
