When traveling, I drink water with electrolytes. This is a great way to stay hydrated. I do not drink alcohol, so water is my go-to beverage. I enjoy the occasional hot tea, especially the ones from Two Leaves And a Bud.
Depending on your destination, you may need to adjust your water intake to suit the climate. If you are traveling to a hot, dry, or high-altitude location, you will lose more water through sweating and breathing and need to drink more to compensate. On the other hand, if you are traveling to a cold or humid location, you may not feel as thirsty but still need to stay hydrated. A good rule of thumb is to drink at least half your body weight in ounces of water per day and more if you are active or exposed to extreme temperatures.

The reminders are essential. I start my day with water before I eat anything. I sometimes must remind myself to move throughout the workday when I get busy. I use movement to refill my water bottle. I do my best to track my water intake and meet my daily water goals.

Drink a little water even when you’re not thirsty. By the time you experience thirst, you’re already at least mildly dehydrated. This is especially helpful for headache and migraine sufferers, or if you tend to feel tired or have brain fog during the day. With that said, moderation is key. You *can* over-hydrate — known as “water intoxication” or “water toxicity” — which is evidenced by electrolyte imbalances that can lead to acute health issues. Lastly, if you are experiencing excessive thirst — where you can’t seem to turn-off that signal — inform your clinical care provider.
